Police Report
December 20th 2002 - January 20th 2003
Crime
The village suffered a spate of thefts from
motor vehicles just before the Xmas period and 2-distraction
style attempted burglaries whereby the offenders were
clearly trying to steal Christmas presents that had been
wrapped and prepared for distribution.
Brickworth Garage has suffered from a higher than normal
number of 'bilkings'. This is the term used to describe
an offence of 'making off without payment' or, in layman's
terms, filling your car up with petrol and making off,
purposely driving away without paying for it.
In relation to the thefts from vehicles, DNA samples have
been recovered from the scenes of all of these offences,
including some similar offences in Landford over the same
period. I am awaiting the results of these, which will
hopefully identify the offender(s).
Enquiries into the 'bilkings' have identified 2 offenders
who will be interviewed and hopefully charged in the very
near future. One local resident was charged with drinking
& driving over Xmas.
Contacting Me!
I am pleased that, at last, residents are
starting to call me and e-mail me on a regular basis with
snippets of information and that the presumption that you
are "wasting my time" has gone. Please keep the
calls and e-mails coming, what may appear on face value
to be a trivial matter to you could prove to be the final
part of a jig saw for me!
Speed Enforcement
A subject close to your hearts! You will all be
delighted to hear that, after 2 years of begging, I have
now been trained on the new Laser Speed Detection Device,
which is available for our use. Please be vigilant when
driving through your own village. This device can measure
your speed, incredibly accurately, at distances of up to
1 kilometre away and now that I can carry out checks on
my own, the speed limit will be enforced in accordance
with National Guidelines. In a nutshell, if you're caught
driving at 40 mph or over in a 30-mph limit you WILL be
issued with a fixed penalty notice attracting a fine of
£60 and 3 penalty points.
Mobile Police Station
I will be visiting the Surgery Car Park on
Tuesday 11th February 2003 in our mobile police office,
in company with Mrs Elaine Stolton, the Front Desk Clerk
from Alderbury police station. We will be there for 2
hours and would welcome your visit to the vehicle to meet
us and discuss any concerns that you might have. I hope
that this will become a regular feature of my work in the
village, providing Ford doesn't take the vehicle back!
There are posters advertising this event in all 3-village
pubs, and the Surgery itself.
Best Regards,
Alan M Day
